Get Married at St. Francis of Assisi
Holy Matrimony is a physical and spiritual union of a man and a woman, entered into within the community of faith, by mutual consent of heart, mind, and will, and with intent that it be lifelong. – Episcopal Church Canon Law.
In order to hold your wedding at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, you must take the following steps.
Contact the Church
Make an appointment with the clergy as soon as possible, as permission must be granted by the clergy of St. Francis before any wedding plans or arrangements may be announced. Allow at least four months between meeting with the clergy and the wedding date. Review dates with the Parish Administrator to confirm the availability of the church. Further, it is custom that no weddings are performed during Advent or Lent.
Pre Marriage Workshops
The Episcopal Church requires that couples wishing to be married in the church receive pre-marriage instruction and counseling. At St. Francis this requirement is fulfilled by participating in at least five separate sessions to discuss the details of the ceremony, the Christian understanding of marriage, the practical issues of putting two lives and histories under one roof, and the Biblical concept of family living. Also please know that if either of the couple have been previously married and subsequently divorced, both the couple and the clergy must seek permission from the Bishop in order for the marriage to take place.
